In most cases, a log cabin in the UK can benefit from a little insulation for extra warmth; however, cabins built with logs any thinner than 44mm may not feel any great difference. Depending on what your intentions are for your new outdoor building, you could want no insulation, floor or roof insulation only, or full insulation around the entire structure. The more insulated it is, the cozier it becomes, so if you plan on having anyone spend significant time inside it, we suggest you get some installed.
Luckily, you don't need to figure all this out by yourself. Part of our stellar service includes optional insulation at any level. Just tell us what your requirements are, and we get it sorted for you. If you are not sure what your requirements are, we are here to give some expert advice.
Each cabin is different and each of our clients is different, so there is no set rule for what insulation is required. There are benefits to each level:
Your floor, walls, and ceiling are fully padded in the same way a house would be, keeping as much warmth as possible inside your building. Full insulation reduced the need for an expensive heating system and allows people to comfortable sleep inside for most of the year. If you plan to use your cabin during winter, anything less than this would be seriously ill-advised.
If you plan to rent your cabin to holidaymakers, full insulation is a big plus as many potential guests look for it.
Roof insulation helps stop the warmth from escaping through the top of the structure. This is good in smaller builds where you are likely to have a small heater of some kind as it helps the cabin warm up quite a bit faster.
You guessed it- this stops heat escaping through the floorboards. Floor insulation is also good to keep the cold from seeping in. There is nothing worse than cold toes! Floor insulation does not make a cabin warm by itself, but it can keep your feet significantly more comfortable. Floor insulation is great for cabins furnished with low beds or camping mattresses, as it blocks cold breezes coming through the floor. Anybody in a sleeping bag is sure to thank you for this consideration!
There are times when insulation is not required or beneficial. Structures where the log thickness is any less than 40mm are not worth insulating, as the cost is high and the reward very low. Logs this thin simply cannot keep out the cold effectively, even with all the insulation you could stuff inside. Wigwams are an example of garden log cabins for sale on our website that don't require insulation. Many people also decide not to insulate small cabins being used as camping huts, which are generally used during summer.
For specific advice, our team is on hand to help from the very beginning of your LCUK journey and can compare structures, insulation options, and prices based on what you are looking for.
